NEVER STOP ADVENTURING…

So it’s 16 days until I leave for NZ and finally I feel like I’m almost ready. After editing and re-editing my gear over the last 2 weeks and several rounds of trial packing I think I’ve cracked it. My 50L pack is full to capacity, but thanks to various compression sacks I think it’ll just work. 2 years in the making, I can’t wait to get into the southern alps of New Zealand and onto some snow.

After reading up on the course guide from Adventure Consultants it was obvious that my normal fitness wasn’t going to cut it. Training has gone well, despite a couple of minor injuries, (MCL inflammation & hamstring strain!) and thanks to some great physical therapy I’m in good shape. I’ve been steadily upping the activity levels – Rock Climbing, Swimming, Nike Training Club, Yoga … and summiting a few of Oregon’s big peaks the best of which was a skin up, ski down of Mt.Adams. Next weekend is my final hike, a 20+ mile round trip up to Tanner Butte. A good final test for the legs! Then soon enough the airport will beckon and I’ll be on my way…
